Hello and welcome to my Bio! My name is Martin Pinner and I’m 21 years old. Right from an early age, I have always loved electro-mechanical devices and loved exploring their design. I disassembled more toys than I played with as a kid and to a certain extent, I still do! I grew up watching the Short Circuit movies and the British TV series called “The Secret Life Of Machines” by Tim Hunkin (http://www.timhunkin.com) which drove my passion for engineering. The TV series really helped my understanding of the basic principles of how every day objects worked which I put to good use by making many weird and wonderful contraptions out of allsorts of things I took apart.
I grew up in Watford England but later moved to North Norfolk where I currently reside. I studied at the Norwich City College for a while but I’m currently in my third year of University and I’m studying for a BSc (Hons) degree in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen Scotland.
After I graduate, I would like to take my education further, but I would love to spend some time in Japan as this is the capital of all things Robots and where we see amazing Robotic developments such as the Sony QRIO robots. Later, I would like to go to America and explore the opportunities out there.
As for my role with the Johnny Five Project, I originally joined the group to make the Printed Circuit Boards (PCB’s) required for the robots but due to my engineering drawing experience, I also ended up helping on the Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings as well.
Once the project is complete and I have my very own J5, it will be mainly used as a show piece in my home and sometimes taken to any charity events or conventions that would like to have the robot on show. The project for me has been very interesting and I have been privileged to work with some fantastic people and made new friends along the way.
Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me and I wish the very best to you all for your support.
Signed,
Martin Pinner
